Travel Update 2024

Cumil the Sewer Worker - Bratislava , Slovakia

Well, my travels for the first half of 2023 are just about finished. I have made three trips to my second home in Turkey, totalling about ten weeks, and managed to fit in a River Cruise with Viking on the Rhine. I'm enjoying river cruising and intend to try and do at least one a year - until I run out of rivers!

Although I love travelling and have no plans to stop anytime soon, it makes it challenging for me to edit photos and update this blog regularly. I find it difficult to edit photos or write extensively while on the go. As a result, I end up doing all my editing when I am back at my desk in the UK. I'm determined to commit to being more consistent with my writing and posting, without stressing too much about creating definitive travel guides.

I'm now spending the next few months at home where I can play catch up and continue with a few projects. The first thing on my checklist is to put a bit of effort into selling my photography as digital downloads, prints or other home decor items. I've dabbled a little and have a steady trickle of sales from Redbubbble and Photo4me. I have developed a fair catalogue of travel images so I think it's about time I pushed this a little further and made it a mission for 2024. To that end, I've set up shop on Fine Art America and will be linking to my portfolio via this site and social media. You can find my work there by following stuartchard.com.

As usual, I'll be spending July and August at home in the UK (hopefully we will get a summer). Later in the year, I will be visiting Edinburgh for a few days and probably turn that into a mini road trip and add a couple of stays somewhere on the way up and back. I've also got a cruise booked (more on that nearer the time) and of course a return the Turkey in September or October.

I'm also continuing with my black-and-white film photography and developing at home. This is great fun, and I enjoy it. However, I only shoot film at home in the UK, which is only about 30-40% of the year!

I have no financial need to manage a blog or sell prints but it gives my photography a focus and pushes me to improve and do my best to make images that people will be interested in.

Onwards and upwards!
