My trusty Fujifilm X-Pro1? Yeah, I'm still using it, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. There's just something about this camera – the way it feels, the images it makes – that newer cameras often miss. It lets me focus on actually taking photos instead of getting lost in a million settings. In a few days I'll be off to Turkiye for six weeks and the X-Pro1 will be the camera in my bag.
The latest models are packed with more tech, and I own and use the X-e2, X-e3 and X-T5 and several film cameras, but the X-Pro1 has a special place in my heart (and my camera bag). Its classic looks and old-school controls just click with my style, making every shot a fun experience. Plus, I can throw on all sorts of lenses, old and new, and it still delivers that vibe I love. I usually have the camera set permenatly for black and white and when I'm travelling for fun it's an easy grab.
Okay, using an older camera isn't always a walk in the park, but my X-Pro1 has proven it's still a reliable and enjoyable tool, even in 2025. It's not just about the specs on paper; it's the connection I have with this thing that keeps inspiring me.
Quick Takeaways:
The X-Pro1's cool sensor and design just make taking photos
It feels great in your hands and makes shooting more enjoyable.
You can use tons of different lenses, so it's still super versatile.
The Fujifilm X-Pro1's Vibe
This camera's got a personality all its own. From the moment I picked it up, it just felt right, you know? Not like some other cameras I've used. That retro look is killer. The metal and leather combo gives it this classic feel. And it's not just for show – it actually feels great in your hands, which makes shooting more enjoyable. I also love the physical dials. There's something so satisfying about actually turning a dial to change the aperture or shutter speed. It means I can adjust things quickly without having to dive into menus.
That First-Gen Fuji Sensor Magic
And the image quality? Still awesome for its age. I don't mind the 16 megapixel sensor which is modest by todays standards because the files are rich and lifelike, and my photos often have this cool, almost film-like quality. For me, it's not just about the technical stuff; it's the artistic feel this sensor brings to my photography. I genuinely love the timeless look it gives my images.
Is the X-Pro1 Still Worth It in 2025?
People often ask me if the Fujifilm X-Pro1 is still a good choice in 2025. It's a fair question, considering it's not exactly the newest kid on the block.First off, that unique X-Trans sensor still kicks out great image quality, especially if you're into that film-like vibe. Plenty of photographers still love what it can do.
Here's a big plus: you can usually snag one of these second-hand for a decent price, making it a cool option if you're on a budget. And while it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of newer cameras, the X-Pro1 has this undeniable charm. It makes you think more about each shot, which I personally appreciate. So, yeah, in my book, its strengths still shine. The X-Pro1 is definitely still a viable option for photographers who value its character and unique qualities.
The Downsides of Going Old School
Let's be real, using an older camera like the X-Pro1 does come with a few bumps in the road. While I love its quirks, some things can be a bit frustrating.
Slow Autofocus: The autofocus isn't as snappy as on newer cameras. Sometimes I miss shots because it struggles to lock on, especially in low light or with moving subjects.
Missing Modern Goodies: I do sometimes wish I had in-body image stabilization. It would definitely make handheld shooting easier in tricky situations.
No Weather Sealing: Unlike newer cameras, I have to be careful with the X-Pro1 in rain or dusty conditions, which limits where I can shoot.
Battery Life: The battery life isn't amazing compared to more recent models. I always carry extra batteries, especially for longer shoots.
So, while I love my X-Pro1, these downsides are something I have to keep in mind when I'm out shooting. It's just part of the experience!
Lens Love: Old and New
One of the cool things about the X-Pro1 is how well it plays with both older and newer Fujifilm lenses.
Vintage Vibes: Some of my go-to older lenses are the Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 and the 18mm f/2. These were my first Fujifilm lenses along with the 18-55 kit lens. They give fantastic image quality and this unique character that adds a cool, vintage feel to my photos. For my upcoming trip I'll likely take the 18mm f2 and leave it on as I find t so versatile and a foca length I really get on with.
